Alien Invaders (Pragmatic Play) - Marked Row System, Free Spins & 1,626-Spin Session

Introduction

I'm Mia Stone. Hold and Win is my territory and Egypt is my obsession, which puts Alien Invaders well outside the usual lane. Sci-fi theme, variable-height reels, a win mechanic that counts from the bottom of the grid upward rather than left to right. Pragmatic Play launched this in July 2025. I ran 1,626 spins at $2.00 per spin and hit 7 Free Spins rounds. The Win Multiplier counter in the top-left corner sat there every spin: 1 to start, stepped up through cascade chains in base game play, then carried across all spins in the bonus with no reset. The best bonus returned 231.95x. The Marked Row system is a different way of counting wins. Here is what it produced.

The Grid and How Wins Work

This is not a left-to-right payline slot. Wins in Alien Invaders are evaluated using the Marked Row system: a win requires three or more identical symbols on the bottom row of the reels. Not from the leftmost reel - from the bottom row upward. Once that condition is met, every other identical symbol across the grid contributes to the payout.

The practical effect: the first reel does not need to anchor the combination. Identical symbols scattered across reels and rows can produce a win as long as at least three of that type land on the bottom edge. Casinoz describes it as: "If you managed to place three identical symbols vertically or horizontally, but from the bottom of the screen, it is considered a win. All the same signs anywhere on the grid also count."

The grid runs on 5 reels with variable height - between 3 and 5 rows per reel, not a fixed rectangle. Winning symbols are removed and new ones fall in (cascade). The playing field expands as cascades run and cleared positions fill with new symbols. After a cascade sequence ends the reels pull back toward the three-row starting configuration before the next spin loads.

Wild symbols land on reel 3 only during base game play. Each Wild carries an individual multiplier between x1 and x25. That multiplier applies to wins with the Wild in the combination. In Free Spins, Wilds expand to reels 2, 3, and 4 and the multiplier range increases to x1-x100.

The Win Multiplier counter at the top-left of the playing field shows 1 at the start of each base-game spin. During a cascade chain it ticks upward with each step that produces a win. When the spin ends, the counter snaps back to 1. There is no audio cue when it increments. The accumulation that matters is in the Free Spins round, where the counter carries forward with no reset between spins.

Symbols and Payouts

Nine regular symbols in two tiers: lower-value card ranks (A, K, Q, J, 10) and higher-value alien characters (fire alien, frozen alien, evil alien, funny alien). Plus Wild and Scatter as special symbols. The Wild can substitute for all symbols except Scatter.

Individual symbol payout values were not documented in the in-game rules for this session. Win figures in the session data reflect the total output of the win structure, not isolated symbol multipliers.

What I can say from the session: the alien character symbols drive the meaningful win events. The lower-value card ranks contribute frequently but at smaller amounts. The win structure was visible in the outcome distribution: 580 of those 1,626 spins produced wins, across a wide range of sizes.

Free Spins Bonus

Three or more Scatter symbols on the grid trigger Free Spins. Across my 7 triggers, initial awards ranged from 7 to 12 free spins - the count varies with how many Scatters land.

The Win Multiplier is the key mechanic here. In the base game it resets each spin. In Free Spins it does not: the counter carries forward across every spin in the round, building throughout the entire bonus with no reset until the feature ends. A long retrigger chain - additional Scatters during Free Spins add more spins - can extend the round and let the multiplier build through sustained cascade activity.

Wilds are active on reels 2, 3, and 4 during Free Spins (versus reel 3 only in the base game), and their individual multiplier range increases to x1-x100. When a high-value Wild lands during a spin where the Win Multiplier is already high, the two stack.

Across my 7 bonuses, the Win Multiplier built to a useful level in only one round - bonus 5, which peaked at 32x (visible on the final-spin frame). The other six stayed low, with cascade chains not building the counter to levels that would compound meaningfully with Wild multiplier hits. The largest bonus (231.95x at spin 985) was driven by that 32x multiplier together with retrigger volume - 5 retrigger extensions and an extended run of cascade activity. Without that outlier, the remaining six bonuses averaged approximately 32x in win value. The full session average across all 7 was 60.79x.

The path to 5000x requires a different scenario: a long retrigger chain AND the Win Multiplier building to x50 or higher AND Wild multiplier hits during high-multiplier spins. I did not observe that combination across 1,626 spins.

Buy Bonus and Ante Bet

Buy Bonus is available via a dedicated button on the left side of the game area, active throughout base play.

Two options:

• Regular Free Spins: 65x stake. Enters the standard Free Spins bonus, Win Multiplier starting at 1.
• Super Free Spins: 400x stake. Enters with the Win Multiplier pre-set to x50.

The Super FS option sets a meaningful starting advantage: the first win of that feature is already multiplied by 50. At $2.00 per spin, the entry cost is $800. The Regular FS at 65x costs $130 at $2.00 per spin.

Ante Bet adds 25% to each spin cost and doubles the Free Spins trigger probability. At $2.00 the cost becomes $2.50. RTP with Ante Bet: 96.51%. Ante Bet and Buy Free Spins cannot run simultaneously - the Pragmatic Play interface enforces this.

The Ante Bet math: if the base probability of 3+ Scatters in a spin is p, Ante Bet makes it 2p at 1.25x cost. Over a long session, the additional trigger frequency roughly offsets the cost premium at the same 96.51% RTP. Over 1,626 spins the extra triggers would have added up - but so would the extra cost.

My Session - 1,626 Spins

I ran 1,626 paid spins at a fixed $2.00 bet in Pragmatic Play's demo. 580 of those spins produced a win - a 35.67% hit rate (580 / 1,626). The longest cold streak across the session was 17 consecutive non-winning spins. That is short for a slot labeled High volatility.

The Marked Row mechanic is likely why the hit rate is high relative to the volatility label. Wins evaluated from the bottom row upward, with all identical symbols across the grid included once the bottom-row condition is met, generates smaller wins more often than a left-to-right payline structure.

Observed RTP: 110.09% ($3,580 / $3,252). That is well above the 96.50% theoretical rate. The positive variance is driven almost entirely by bonus 5 at spin 985 (231.95x, $463.90).

In bonus 5 the Win Multiplier reached 32x, shown on the final-spin frame; in the other six rounds it stayed low, so the multiplier did not stack consistently to levels that would drive outsized compound results.

Test limitations: This session ran for 1,626 paid spins in the Pragmatic Play demo with virtual credits - a single demo session is not a prediction of long-run return. The Win Multiplier reached a useful level in only one of the 7 bonus rounds (32x in bonus 5); the upper end of the win distribution - the x50-x100 multiplier scenario - was not sampled. Bonus trigger frequency also varied within the session: triggers 6 and 7 came 40 spins apart while the gap between triggers 4 and 5 was 156 spins.

How It Compares - Alien Invaders vs Gates of Olympus

Both titles come from Pragmatic Play. Both use cascade mechanics and a Win Multiplier that builds in Free Spins. The structural differences are in win counting and bonus access cost.

Gates of Olympus uses cluster-pays on a 6x5 grid: 8 or more identical symbols anywhere on the grid produce a win. Alien Invaders uses Marked Row: 3 or more on the bottom row, with all other matching symbols across the grid contributing. The practical effect is a higher hit rate in Alien Invaders - more wins triggered by the bottom-row condition than Gates of Olympus requires for cluster formation.

Player fit: reach for this over Gates of Olympus when you want more activity in the base game. The hit rate here means there is something happening most spins. Gates front-loads more of the return into the bonus.
